Rose Garden
Val Vista Lakes Community Rose Garden
The rose garden flourishes under the love and skill of certified rosarian, Lynn Twitchell and a team of VVL Garden Club members, volunteers and Thorbird trainees. Lynn (along with her late husband, Jack) masterminded the VVL Rose Garden which broke ground in 2011. Many VVL residents have worked together to care for the rose garden over the years. Now, with the help of the Rose Garden Committee, you will see frequent educational and social events at the rose garden. If you wish to join the fun and learn how to care for the roses on a day-to-day basis, please contact us at info@vvlgardenclub.org.
Welcome to Our “How To” Videos
How to Deadhead Tea Roses
Lynn Twitchell
In this video, we discuss how to find a bud before cutting a rose flower that is fading. This skill will ensure there are nutrients going to the growing flowers and to keep producing more roses. It also keeps the rose bush to look beautiful! This is especially important when you are trimming tea roses.
How to Deadhead Floribunda Roses
Lynn Twitchell
Each type of rose bush is different in many ways, including how you cut the dying flowers to encourage new growth. In this video we discuss how to deadhead floribunda roses.
How to Weed a Rose Bed
Lynn Twitchell
In this video, we discuss which weeds to pull and which weeds should be treated with a weed killer. We always want to stay as organic as possible. That said, some weeds multiply when you pull them and you can inadvertently make more work for yourself.
